The Receptionist at the A&E department was very rude and abrupt. Also, the doctor at the department that was looking after me did not give me enough information on what is wrong with me nor did he take me seriously. Whilst communicating with me, I felt as if he couldn’t take me seriously and he was smirking. When I confronted him he laughed and said that is not the case. Overall, my experience at the Great Western Hospital was disgusting and I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. This hospital lacks respect and communication.
One suggestion is to have a (Bed) business continuity plan (mobile homes in car park) in place each winter to deal with the winter period. I guess this come down to central government providing additional funding to cover this. It makes no sense to have surgeons and staff being sat around and paid but unable to operate due to bed availability.
My brother sadly passed away in the I.C.U. He was treated with respect and cared for second to none. They were kind, respective and dedicated to the highest standard. I do not like hospitals ( excluding staff ! ) but I have to say this hospital is of the highest standard.
Very Impressed,

Fantastic all round care provided by all staff despite there being a bed crissis and being incredibly busy everyone remained calm and professional and this was delivered with a smile.
My experience of being an emergency patient to Beech Ward was amazing. I was welcomed, reassured and cared for in a very caring professional way. We were kept informed every step of the way regarding my treatment, nothing was too much trouble for any member of the staff they were all amazing and sooooooooooooooooooooooo busy! The Nursing staff even made Christmas Day rather special for us all who had occasion to spend it in GWH!
Before I was on Linnet Ward which was brilliantly staffed although they could have done with more staff but Casualty was unbelievable. The pace the staff have to work at to keep us all safe is truly amazing they all deserve special thanks as it was their Christmas as well!
My child was seen promptly by triage and referred onto a doctor. However, the doctor did not consult a paediatric consultant which led to a complete misdiagnosis and incorrect advice. Less than a day after my child was admitted with a serious infection which could have been prevented if the care had been more thorough and the correct advice was sought. Basic checks were not done e.g., bloods and swabs which would have meant my child would have not necessarily so desperately ill.
I had one nurse... Lucy garrett, who listened to me. Who sat with me every night she was working, and listened. She was ever so nice and informed me about all decisionsthat were being made. I wouldn't have got through my 8 day stay. Lucy made sure I was alright and was constantly checking up to make sure this was the case. The other nurses were good, but lucy reassured me about everything I was scared about. Let's get this nurse recognised for all her hard work, determination and care towards patients!!!
i am verey happy with the service
Every member of staff I came across in the hospital was very friendly, professional and caring. I felt that all my treatment was well explained and choices were given to me. The hospital is easily accessed by car and public transport and it is easy to find your way round.
I don’t think you can improve the services at a&e at the current state of the nhs. 15 plus hrs on a trolly 2 to a side cubicle with a screen in between everybody is shoulder to shoulder it’s complete chaos and a joke to be personally honest and a big
mistake ready to happen people getting treated in waiting areas ??
And to add to be honest it’s not very comfortable when you can here the doctors nurses and other staff talking to each other also saying it’s ridiculous and a joke in here it doesn’t give you much confidence. It really is a very uncomfortable place to be when you are generally very unwell.
